Amelia Delaney is furious. She’s the unluckiest kid in her sleepy hometown of Woodspring – the most boring place on earth. Not only has her little brother Kai been fast-tracked into her Year 6 class, but she also has the worst nemesis ever! Emilia Katinkatonk—part of the extremely fortunate (and powerful) Katinkatonk family. Amelia is done with coming second in absolutely EVERYTHING!

All that is about to change when her grandmother Queenie, who Amelia and Kai thought was very much dead, arrives on their doorstep. Mysterious, stylish and very much alive.

While the studious Kai embraces her, Amelia is wary of this opulent interloper. Despite being absent for the past two decades, Queenie can see this family needs an injection of confidence, and that just happens to be her stock-in-trade.

Dad, Franklin, isn’t so keen about her coming back on the scene either. He already has enough to deal with. His wife Emma is off saving Antarctic penguins and Queenie’s brand of chaos is the last thing he needs right now. Kai and Amelia have their suspicions about their glamorous granny too, and they revolve around Woodspring’s greatest lost treasure, The Nug, a meteorite that crash landed one hundred years ago.

For 70 years the Nug was the town’s crowning glory… until it was stolen 27 years ago. And now with the centenary of its discovery approaching fast, and a $100,000 reward posted for its return, Amelia and Kai are sure Queenie’s come back to find it.

Because you see, it was Queenie who stole it in the first place. She was once a member of the notorious Kangaroo Gang, a crew of con-artists who yoinked it way back when. But as soon as they’d liberated their prize… they lost it. It’s never been seen since.

The hunt is on now to find it, and with Amelia and Kai, Queenie has the beginnings of a new crew. Especially when they add Amelia’s BFF Penelope, an aspiring actor, and ne kid Ophelbert, a gentle giant and talented artist. Much to Franklin’s disapproval Queenie starts to train the kids, aptly named the Joeys, in the art of the con. Sharpening their newfound skills at school and beyond, the Joeys use Queenie’s ‘Ten Con-mandments’ to solve the mystery of The Nug, while facing off against Amelia’s all-powerful school captain enemy, Emilia Katinkatonk.

Golden child, Emilia uses her army of cousins to rule the school, but with Queenie’s training, the Joeys finally push back against the Katinkatonk tide.

But the clock is ticking, especially when it looks like the rest of the Kangaroo Gang is about to descend upon Woodspring to claim their long-lost prize.

And as the hunt for the Nug continues, the Joeys, and especially Queenie, may even begin to realise that the greatest treasure to be snatched after all is family. That and dismantling the Katinkatonk’s stronghold on Woodspring once and for all.
